Gender-Affirming Therapy & Support

Your gender is multi-dimensional, personal, and expansive. (In addition to being a social construct.) Therapy can, however, offer a place to explore what it means to live more fully and authentically in your gender—especially when that process intersects with relationships, family, work, healthcare, sexuality, identity, or a changing sense of self.

Foxfire Therapy offers affirming support for transgender, nonbinary, queer, and gender-expansive people at any point in their journey. You do not need to have everything figured out.
You can be questioning. Certain. Somewhere in between. Your experience is yours to explore, and we would be honored to be on that journey with you.

What gender-affirming therapy can support

You may be navigating:
  • Gender identity exploration
  • Social, medical, or legal transition
  • Changes in how you relate to your body
  • Coming out or deciding who to come out to and how to maintain emotional and physical safety
  • Gender dysphoria or gender euphoria
  • Family or relationship changes
  • Dating, intimacy, or sexuality
  • Workplace discrimination or new community experiences
  • Minority stress, discrimination, or invalidation
  • Internalized shame or expectations about gender
  • Grief around changes or relationships
  • Questions about what authenticity means for you at this moment in your life

Our approach to gender-affirming therapy

Gender-affirming therapy begins with respecting your autonomy. You are the expert on your own experience.
Finding an affirming therapist can, unfortunately, be a challenging or an emotionally draining process. We are here to offer a thoughtful, affirming space where you can explore that question without having to defend or justify yourself.
Together, we may:
  • Explore identity without pressure toward a particular outcome
  • Separate your own values and desires from external expectations
  • Process the emotional impact of misgendering, rejection, or discrimination
  • Navigate changes in family, partnership, friendship, or work relationships
  • Explore body image, embodiment, dysphoria, and euphoria
  • Work with grief, uncertainty, anger, joy, and relief
  • Develop strategies for boundaries and self-advocacy
  • Reconsider stories about gender that no longer fit
  • Build a stronger sense of self and belonging
Our work may draw from narrative, relational, existential, ACT, compassion-based, and IFS-informed approaches.
